MONDAY, MONDAY, MONDAY!

First post of August! How exciting. Well, three is all we get this week cuz the month just started and all. Walrus (with bonus flamingo) the 1st, Fox 2nd, and Whippit the 3rd. I feel like i could make them more 'complete' drawings, but how? *starry far off look*
Oh and,
Damn it Annelise, where are you? Christina and I are holding this ship together ourselves, don't go the way of Chad, all AWOL and such.
Oh yah, you have a job where you do this stuff all the time.

In unrelated news, i finally got something that resembles a job- under the table pizza delivery bro. It works. See you guys later.

*Edit- I just re-uploaded the pictures, are they working now?

Drawing Number One!

Hey!  So I did my first drawing!  I did it yesterday because I'm gonna be at a family reunion all day today and I didn't want to get off to a late start.  I'm quite excited about this whole thing so I may end up posting every day.  We'll see.

This drawing was inspired by an interesting cloud shape.

Can't wait to see your first drawings!!

Random sketchbook stuff

Thought I'd brighten up the page with a couple random drawings I did earlier this summer.  They don't relate to anything in particular, but they're pretty and I haven't put anything up yet.

Kick off Print

Here is the lino-cut I did to honor our project. Get excited people, this is gonna be fun. Oh, and I am still debating about wether to upload every day or once a week. I feel like every day would be so awesome, but potentially overwhelming. Oh well, at any rate a lot of art is going up soon.

I'm in! :)

Count me in!  I'll be doing (like I mentioned before) characters based on patterns, shapes, textures, etc. that I find in the environment around me.  I've already got some photo references/inspiration from my back yard so I'm ready to go.  I think I'll focus on graphite pencil as my medium, but I may mix in a bit of colored pencil occasionally for some color.  I'll post my drawings on Fridays.

Also, I think Jess would be a wonderful addition to this little project!  If everyone else is okay with it then I say "Welcome aboard!"

Can't wait to see everybody's work!

Im doin it. LETS ROCK!

Officially, I'm gonna do this thing. Like I said in my other post, one drawing a day, August, pen and ink, animals. I'm going to update on Monday with the seven drawings of the week. If you're with me, pick a day and tell us what you'll be doing.

I did a lino-cut to kick off this drawing jam, I have to print it, but it will be up soon. (It is pretty kick-ass if I say so myself.)

Also, my good friend Jess Fisher wants to join in on drawing this extravaganza. If you don't know her, I think you do Christina, she's our year in illustration too. What say you council?

Alright team, huddle up.

So I think we ought to instill some discipline into this thing. And I think I have an idea of how to do it. Here's my thought:

What if, for the month of August, we each commit to doing one doodle or drawing a day, on some sort of theme. And we will each update here once a week with our seven drawings. Or daily, one drawing a piece, but that might be an overwhelming amount of updates.

For instance, I though I would draw one animal a day for a month. To make it interesting and relieve myself the torture of coming up with an animal, and a medium daily, I will limit myself to only pen and ink, on a 6x6 (or so) piece of paper, and I will ask a friend every day for their favorite animal. By the end of August I will have 30 ink drawings, some of which are bound to not be crap, and I'll hopefully be a pro at pen and ink.

Animals are just a suggestion, it could be monsters, strangers, plants, girls, dudes, or whatever. It might be interesting to all do the same category, or we could each pick something different. But if we all commit to doing a drawing a day, we can motivate each other, and then see lots of awesome art go up on this blog!

What do you guys think? Suggestions welcome.

SUP GUYS

we rock. now, let's fuckin roll.

NYC is pretty fun and cool. I was forcing the creative juices for a while, and it was painful, but a trip to central park after work one day brought me back to life! Hooray. I am starting a series of giants (commentary on ego, and viewing oneself as bigger and better than the rest of humanity). I want to do what I have been doing, but start pushing the facial development of my characters, maybe a bit more rendering and bone structure (remember my frankenstein? like that!). Also I want to do a series of lifesize short story illustrations. Basically, they would be gallery installations, and when you read/view a "page," you will be immersed in this 5 ft tall page! Cool??? So here are some sketches I have been doing at the sketch nights at SI (it's pretty fun - free beer for interns and a live jazz band with two live models in costumes). Comments, please! Excuse the poor quality, I have no scanner access right now. LOVE YA'LL!!

PS- I am on Illustration Mundo now!! you can be on it, too. You just need to submit a pro website (no blogs accepted), and then they judge your acceptability. Yay! :)
